Printed Circuit Board Testing
Once we have manufactured, assembled, and populated the PCBs at our facility, we can then provide testing for quality assurance. Depending on the project, there are a few different ways that PCBs can be effectively tested. An automated optical inspection or visual inspection is typically performed with the power off to maintain quality control in PCB manufacturing. Another type of printed circuit board testing is with the power on, which is when we use an in-circuit test to perform physical measurements, such as voltage. Power off testing can be performed using an analog signature analysis for additional testing. All of these tests work to ensure that the custom wiring was assembled and appropriately populated. In addition, other custom functional test options and custom testing solutions can be conducted to make sure the PCB does what it was designed to do.
To provide for accurate printed circuit board testing, additional pads are often added to the PCBs for the purpose of using temporary connections. This allows us to perform an in-circuit test to check on certain features of some components using what is known as a boundary scan test. We can also use this method to program the non-volatile memory components onto the PCB. The great thing about printed circuit boards is that if they fail in any way, our technicians can desolder and replace any parts that have failed.
