Mobile test stations are computer-based and designed to provide a broad range of test solutions. This approach helps our clients to utilize more cost-effective solutions that can be adapted to their needs. A mobile test station features a built-in computer, monitor, and interface test adapters. It takes advantage of “off the shelf” parts and components better than other types of test stations.
The interfaces used with mobile test stations are modular electrical and mechanical with designed expansion areas that feature easy-to-use adaptor panels and plates. Our mobile test stations also include a built-in network and fiber optic capabilities with well-organized and documented station wiring and configurations. Designed-in fast access to all inside resources helps to maximize the use of the test floor area for more efficiency. Depending on the unique needs of your business and the industry that you work in, mobile test stations just might be the best solution.
Just as you might have guessed, automated test equipment that falls under the test-specific station category is designed to test products in a specific way. A variety of features can be included, depending on your needs. While not necessarily a fully custom solution, test-specific stations can be customized to include the stations and interface test adapters required by the client. For example, temperature and vibration stations can be added, as well as active and passive electronic loads and load simulators. The test stations can be EMI, RF, or EMC compliant, based on your requirements.
Other features can include thermal hoods and plenum interface distribution systems, as well as product and component handler and motion stations. We can offer clients mechanical-only holding, claiming, and multi-axis stations or integrated electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic stations. More choices include video, non-contact, infra-red, laser, and barcode sensor stations. We can even provide micro-contact to large industrial plant stations. There are many advantages associated with test-specific stations. Whether this approach is cost-effective for a client’s needs will need to be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
Universal Test Station
Making the transition from benchtop testing to a rack-based solution provides many benefits to our clients. As new products are developed, they must often share the same test resources as their legacy counterparts. However, a universal test station can provide precise test solutions and expansion capabilities, while also offering reduced costs for similar product type testing and configurations. Some of the hallmark features of a universal test station include front slide-out rack shelving for easy instrument removal. This allows for more frequent and more accessible calibration.
Interface test adapters are used to allow each part type or family to utilize small personality “daughter” cards to interface with the universal test station. Designed-in fast access to all inside resources combined with soft tie-downs and organized wire harnessing assists in rapid access and expansion requirements. Our universal test station solutions use LabVIEW software via IEEE 488 buss for test instrument communication. The flexibility that comes with automated test equipment, RF functional testing, and in-circuit test fixture options for a universal test station is one of the biggest draws to this type of solution for our clients.
