A mobile test station features a built-in computer and monitor, as well as test interfaces, which are modular electrical and mechanical. The strategy behind the mobile test station is to maximize the use of “off the shelf” parts and components to increase the return on investment for the client. They feature a built-in network and fiber optic capabilities, plus they have very well-organized and documented station wiring and configurations.
Other advantages of mobile test stations include designed expansion areas that feature easy-to-use adaptor panels and plates. They have designed-in fast access to all inside resources for quick modifications and configurations, as needed. The overall design of the mobile test station maximizes the use of the test floor area, providing the client with a great advantage. Making the transition from benchtop testing to rack-based testing stations can offer additional benefits. As many new products will often share the same test resources as their legacy counterparts, this option allows reduced test costs and lower test development times during production.
Advantages of the Universal Test Stations
There are also many clear advantages to using a universal test station. Precise test solutions, expansion capabilities, and reduce costs associated with testing similar product types and configurations are just the beginning. The front slide-out rack shelving of the universal test stations allows for easy instrument removal and makes it simple to provide frequent calibration services. A center fixture receiver backplane fixture can be interchanged with other fixtures, depending on the client’s needs. Each part type or “family” uses small personality “daughter” cards to interface with the test stations.
To further increase the adaptability and expansion capabilities of the universal test stations, soft tie downs and organized wire harnessing is designed for rapid access. This helps to meet expansion requirements and makes the test stations more flexible. Designed-in fast access to all inside resources, similar to the mobile test stations, makes it easy to create quick modifications and configurations, as needed. Our universal test station from EMC Technologies, Inc. utilizes LabVIEW software via IEEE 488 buss for effective test instrument communication. Additional test-specific stations are also available that can be used with the universal test station.
